I’ve been on the radio lately. Last week I read several poems and spoke to the producers of Write On! at Minneapolis’s KFAI  for about 10-15 minutes on ritual and the creative process. Yesterday the latest episode aired of  Words on a Wire for El Paso’s KTEP  featured me as well, talking a little more at length about mysticism and artwork, my own background, and how to translate awareness of the void into white space on the page.

Just in time to baptize its entrance into the world, my book received this wonderful review during its first week. An excerpt: “These are poems of longing and danger and glittering, terrible beauty.  They are jammed with spiritual supplications and psychedelia … Stucky has catapulted into the firmament of my favorite ecstatic writers alongside Diane di Prima, Bill Callahan, Hafiz, e.e. cummings, and Larkin Grimm.” You can read the whole thing at the art & culture site, Phantasmaphile .

Hail, Dark Aesthetics in Nashville Last night was the Nashville launch for THE TRUTH IS WE ARE PERFECT, which is available for pre-sale beginning today from Third Man Books . It was also the unofficial launch for S. Whitney Holmes’s first book, ROOM WHERE I GET WHAT I WANT, now available from Black Ocean . We were joined by fellow Black Ocean poet  DJ Dolack , as well as local authors Laura Birdsall and Lee Conell. Throbbing drone / industrial performances courtesy of EIAFG and Harvest Team. My deepest gratitude to the folks at Hail for hosting us in their witchy space, to Stone Fox for pouring some stiff drinks, to all the animals that watched quietly from the walls around us, and to Chet & Swank at Third Man for pulling it all together. Lastly, much love to everyone who joined us, supported us, and partied with us. More pics from the eye of that hurricane coming soon. XO from the road to St. Louis …

photo by Adrianne Mathiowetz For everyone who doesn’t live in Virginia–or who lives in The Old Dominion but wasn’t watching TV at 9a on Monday–you missed me talking about poetry, dog food, and becoming rich with absence, on Virginia This Morning . But good news! They’ve posted the clip online for your viewing pleasure . Richmond was the first stop on my book tour, and I got into Nashville last night just in time to catch SQÜRL at Third Man Records–whom I recommend catching if you have the chance! Afterwards, I chatted briefly with Jim Jarmusch about poetry, the New York School, and Bill Knott. It’s always exciting to talk about poetry with artists from other mediums. Tonight I perform in Nashville at HAIL , at 7p. For more tour dates, check out the full list here .

Blackout

Years ago my old friend (as well as Black Ocean cover art collaborator, and go-to tattoo artist), Josh Wallis, and I made this comic. We intended it as a sort of overture to a larger project concerning a mortician whose insomnia is blurring the lines of sanity and reality–something we were both intimately familiar with as an insomniac (Josh) and a mortician (me). It was published in a very limited-edition anthology by River Bird Comics and was never reprinted. Some day the longer project may still be realized, but in the meantime rather than let it languish in publishing torpor, we present it now for your reading pleasure. HERE

It's Internet Official

Third Man Books publicly announced today that they’ll be publishing my debut full-length collection of poems, THE TRUTH IS WE ARE PERFECT, on April 14th. You can check out the website, where they talk a little more about the release and have posted audio of me reciting one of these little spells, cut straight to vinyl. It sounds like a field recording of a seance, which sounds pretty perfect to me.
